Maternity Photos | WHAT TO WEAR

Hey, Michigan mamas-to-be! If you’re looking to celebrate your pregnancy with a maternity photo session, but you don’t know what to wear, we are here for you! Over the years, we have photographed a variety of maternity sessions with outfits that range from cocktail dresses to a simple bra and blue jeans. You might be feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to start, and that is why we created this guide for you. Depending on your location, season, and personal style, there are a dozen different directions you can go with your outfit, but here are some of our favorites!

Classically Delicate

Dresses like these are what might immediately come to your mind when you think of “maternity photo outfits.” Flowy, feminine, and comfortable, garden dresses like these will never go out of style. These dainty dresses are sure to connect you to mother nature in settings like lakes, beaches, forests, and meadows. And, you can find dress styles that differ in neckline, length, and sleeve type to make sure you feel comfortable and beautiful in your photos.

Making a Statement

Who says you have to keep it neutral? If bright, bold, and eye-catching is your style, go for something colorful! Bright colors are regaining their popularity this year, thanks to inspiration from the 1970s and 1980s. If your maternity photos are set for spring or summer, a bright color would be perfect in any location. You are the main event in your maternity session, so step into the spotlight and own it.

Elegant and Urban

While flowy, boho dresses speak to some mamas, you might lean toward a more glamorous and chic style in neutral colors. Elegant fabrics like chiffon, velvet, and silk radiate class and sophistication. These gowns also tend to have more structure, a tighter fit, and unconventional necklines or cutouts. Pair them with metallic jewelry, your favorite heels, and a modern hairstyle to complete the look. If you’re looking to add some unique edge to your maternity photos, elegance and urbanity are the way to go!

Keep it Cozy

Planning on a fall, winter, or at-home maternity session? We would suggest choosing a soft, cozy dress or set. Paired with tights and booties outdoors or bare feet at home, you’ll be feeling warm and looking hot in a winter-inspired look. These form-fitting knit styles look AMAZING in maternity sessions because they can really highlight your baby bump and your other curves in the most flattering way.

Pink Panther

Pink is really getting its moment this year, especially in muted and dusty tones. With either of these gowns, you can really lean into a feminine vibe with bows in your hair, strappy sandals, and a sunhat, which would be perfect for a natural setting. Or you can edge it up with a leather or denim jacket, combat boots, and sunglasses for the city. Whichever way your style leans, a dusty pink dress at the base is a sure winner for any location.

Low Maintenance

So, flowy dresses aren’t your thing? No problem. Luckily, there are a ton of adorable options for our moms who would rather rock a more casual look or romper. This green jumper would be a perfect choice for a playful location like a meadow or your home, while the ivory romper or two piece dress would really shine in a city location with sunglasses and a slicked-back hairstyle. Don’t be afraid to step away from the normal dress options and find something totally unique that fits your style!
