You’re engaged (congrats!), and now it’s time to start planning one of the most fun parts of your wedding journey: the engagement session.
We know that stepping in front of the camera can feel a little awkward at first, but trust us, by the end of your session, you’ll be laughing, snuggling, and totally in the moment. Whether you’re using your photos for save-the-dates, your wedding website, or just to capture the glow of this season, we want you to feel confident and comfortable every step of the way.
Here’s your go-to guide for a stress-free, photo-worthy engagement session…Michigan-style.

Where Should We Take Our Engagement Photos?
Metro Detroit is packed with beautiful backdrops that match your unique style! If you have a specific location, let us know! Otherwise, we’ve photographed at HUNDREDS of locations and can give suggestions.
Personal location:
- Your home: We love a good home session! This is where you eat, laugh, love, and hang out. If you love a cozy, intimate, personal vibe, this is a great option.
- Meaningful spot: Did you meet at a local bar? Have a favorite picnic location? Always eat at a specific ice cream shop? Love your hometown downtown? These are fantastic spots for an engagement shoot.
For Nature Lovers (hundreds of options, but here are some examples):
- Michigan metroparks: We are so lucky to have a string of beautiful metroparks throughout southeast Michigan and they are full of trees, paths, meadows, lakes, docks, etc.
- Historic venues: If you love nature + rustic views, than Michigan is full of beautiful locations. Please note that all of these require an appointment and shooting fee, but they are well worth it!
For Urban + Edgy Vibes:
- Downtown Ann Arbor: Smaller urban vibe than Detroit but so many quaint alleys, murals, city views, and charming storefronts.
- Downtown Detroit: Our go-to pick if you love big-city vibes. Colorful murals, epic architecture, sweeping city views, garage rooftops, and city parks makes it one of our favorites for a lot of variety and options. Downtown Ann Arbor: Smaller urban vibe than Detroit but so many quaint alleys, murals, city views, and charming storefronts.
- Small town downtowns: Michigan is full of quaint downtowns that make for quieter, more charming options than the bigger cities. Just a few to name: Northville, Birmingham, Rochester, Milford, Howell, and Monroe.

What Should We Wear?
Your outfits should reflect your personality while complementing each other and the location. Here’s what works best:
- Coordinate but don’t match: Choose a color palette (neutrals, earth tones, jewel tones) and build your looks from there.
- Dress it up (or down): One dressier option and one more casual look gives variety.
- Think movement: Flowy dresses or skirts look beautiful in motion.
- Avoid loud patterns or logos that distract from your connection.
- Don’t forget the shoes and accessories! They complete your look and add texture.
Need help? We’re always happy to offer wardrobe guidance based on your chosen location and vibe.

How Do We Stop Feeling Awkward?
The #1 thing couples tell us after their session?
“That was way more fun than we expected!”
Here’s how we make that happen:
- We guide you the entire time! You’ll never be left wondering what to do with your hands.
- We focus on connection, not perfection. We’ll get you moving, talking, and interacting naturally.
- We keep it light and relaxed, so you feel like you’re on a fun date, not a photo shoot.
You don’t need to be models. You just need to be you.
